“We also hope that you will act with sportsmanship, honesty, responsibility, and give your best effort,” conveyed Prof. Edy to the student delegates.

USU Public Relations – A total of 20 delegates from Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) have been selected to represent the university at the 18th National Student Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQMN) in 2025. The official send-off ceremony took place at the Digital Learning Center Building (DLCB), 8th floor, on Friday (October 3, 2025).
The competition will be held at Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) in South Kalimantan from October 6 to 9, 2025. The USU representatives will compete in several categories, including Tartil, Qira’at Sab’ah, Syahril, Fahmil, and Calligraphy.
Prof. Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A., Vice Rector I of USU, emphasized that this event is an excellent opportunity for students to develop themselves and build national-level networks. He encouraged all participants to give their utmost effort and uphold the values of integrity and sportsmanship.
“We also hope that you will act with sportsmanship, honesty, responsibility, and give your best effort,” he said to the student delegates.
Meanwhile, Rahma Yurliani, S.Psi., M.Psi., Director of the Directorate of Student Achievement and Alumni Relations (Ditmawalumni), stated that the university fully supports and accompanies its student participants in the MTQMN XVIII by providing professional trainers in each field. The participants undergo regular training and are closely monitored for progress.
“We conduct weekly follow-ups with the Ustadz or Ustadzah who train at the Students Center to ensure proper guidance, preparation, and progress,” she explained.
On the same occasion, Afifuddin Dalimunthe, S.P., M.P., Deputy Coordinator of the Cluster for Spiritual and Arts Affairs, mentioned that the 20 student delegates who qualified for the national level had previously passed rigorous selection processes at the university and regional levels. He affirmed that all delegates are highly competent in their respective competition branches.
“As a result of passing the national selection stage organized by the Directorate General of Higher Education (Dikti), these 20 students have proven their qualification to compete at the national level,” Afif explained in an interview.
