MEDAN - Public Relations USU: 1,398 participants in the second phase of the Independent Student Selection (SMM) at Universitas Sumatera Utara are competing for 635 available spots. The SMM exam is being held over two days, starting on Thursday (July 17, 2025) and ending on Friday (July 18, 2025).

The examination venues provided by the organizing committee consist of 20 rooms located in the Center for Information Systems (PSI) building, the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (Fasilkom-TI), and the Faculty of Economics and Development (FEB) at Universitas Sumatera Utara. The first day of the examination consists of three sessions, while the second day has only one session. The announcement of the results is scheduled to be made on July 23, 2025. The second phase of the SMM offers participants 40 program options at USU.

According to Ir. Ikhsan Siregar, ST., M.Eng., Ph.D., Secretary of the USU SMM 2025 Implementation Team, SMM Phase 2 is intended for programs that have not yet filled their quotas due to the overall admission capacity not being fully utilized.

“The unfilled quotas are due to some participants not re-registering through previous admission channels. This SMM Phase 2 is also intended for students who have not yet been declared eligible from the previous selection process,” he explained during the exam administration.

Ikhsan Siregar also emphasized that there will be no other admission selection channels for new students after the completion of SMM Phase 2. This is in accordance with the Ministry’s instruction that the final admission pathways must be announced by July 31, 2025.

“We hope that all participants who pass the second phase will complete the re-registration process and fill the remaining quotas that have been offered,” he concluded. (RJ)
