About USU
Universitas Sumatera Utara (abbreviated as USU) is a state university in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia. USU was initially established with the name Yayasan Universitet Sumatera Utara on June 4, 1952. Our first faculty was the Faculty of Medicine, established on August 20, 1952. President Soekarno inaugurated USU as the 7th State University in Indonesia on November 20, 1957. In 2003, USU changed its university status to status as a Legal Entity State University (PTN-BH) and became the 5th PTN-BH university in Indonesia.

International Affairs Office
The International Affairs Office (IAO) of Universitas Sumatera Utara is a division under the Vice Rector for Planning and Cooperation, which provides expert support and guidance for the formal international relations of Universitas Sumatera Utara. The office contributes to the internationalization of USU through leadership and administrative support. IAO facilitates international collaboration and coordinates activities designed to bring USU closer to the shared vision of USU being internationally recognized for its research, education, and community service.
Student Activity Units
Student activity units are student organizations that facilitate students' hobbies and interests. They are managed by students, helping them grow through interaction and learning with peers. Participating in these units helps build confidence, speaking skills, and soft skills, such as leadership and entrepreneurship.

Access and Transportation
Students from outside Medan can take a flight to Kualanamu Airport and continue their journey to the USU campus by taxi or bus. Students can also take a train and continue their journey using public transportation.
From Outside Medan
Students can use buses to reach USU by going through the nearest bus terminal and getting off at Amplas Terminal. After that, students can continue their journey to the USU campus using public transportation, which takes approximately 30 minutes.
Students can reach the location of Universitas Sumatera Utara by taking a flight. After arriving at Kualanamu Airport, the journey can be continued by taking a taxi or bus, which takes approximately 60 minutes.
Students can use a ship and dock at Belawan Port. Then, the journey can be continued by public transportation or bus to the location of USU, which takes approximately 120 minutes.

Rumah Tjong A Fie
Rumah Tjong A Fie is a historic building located in the city of Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The building was constructed in 1895 by a Chinese entrepreneur named Tjong A Fie, who was a prominent figure in the history of Medan. The building features a Chinese-European architectural style and is one of the well-preserved examples of colonial architecture in Indonesia. Rumah Tjong A Fie covers an area of approximately 8,000 square meters with two floors and 35 rooms.
Istana Maimun
Istana Maimun is a grand palace located in Medan, Indonesia, known for its stunning architecture and rich history. The palace was built in the 19th century during the reign of the Sultanate of Deli and is a remarkable example of Malay architecture with a blend of Indian, Spanish, and Italian styles. Istana Maimun is now a popular tourist destination, showcasing the grandeur of the Sultanate era through its impressive interior decoration and displays of royal artifacts.
Lake Toba
Lake Toba is a volcanic lake located in the province of North Sumatra, Indonesia. The lake is the largest lake in Indonesia and also one of the largest volcanic lakes in the world. Because of its natural beauty, Lake Toba is a popular tourist destination in Indonesia. Lake Toba was formed by the eruption of an ancient volcano around 75,000 years ago, and there is still a volcanic island in the middle of the lake called Samosir Island. Lake Toba covers an area of approximately 1,145 square kilometers and reaches a depth of up to 450 meters.
