“The essence of the Community Service Program is when knowledge meets conscience, and when the university creates impact not only through buildings and degrees, but through concrete actions,” said Prof. Edy.

USU PR – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held a briefing and send-off ceremony for 99 selected students who will participate in the Kampus Berdampak Thematic Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata Tematik/KKN-T) for the Odd Semester of the 2025/2026 Academic Year. The event took place on Thursday (10/16/2025) at the GBPA Courtyard, USU. It was attended by Vice Rector I of USU, Prof. Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A., as well as the Regent of Karo, Brig. Gen. Pol. (Ret.) Dr. dr. Antonius Ginting, Sp.OG., M.Kes.

A total of 99 students from seven faculties will carry out community service for two months, from October 16 to December 16, 2025. They will be placed in 11 villages across five sub-districts in Karo Regency. This program represents a tangible manifestation of USU’s commitment to implementing the tridarma of higher education, particularly in the field of community service.

In his remarks, the Vice Rector I of USU expressed his appreciation to the Karo Regency Government for once again opening opportunities for collaboration, allowing USU students to learn and contribute directly within the community. He emphasized that Karo Regency is not merely a KKN location, but also a “living laboratory” rich in potential in agriculture, tourism, creative economy, and disaster mitigation.

“The essence of the Community Service Program is when knowledge meets conscience, and when the university creates impact not only through buildings and degrees, but through concrete actions,” said Prof. Edy.

Furthermore, Prof. Edy emphasized that the Kampus Berdampak program serves as a platform for social transformation for students. This year’s USU KKN-T theme aligns with the Village Sustainable Development Goals (Village SDGs), which focus on the development of human resources, socio-economic aspects, and village-based environmental sustainability.

“Go forth with enthusiasm, carry the good name of Universitas Sumatera Utara, and become an inspiration in the places where you serve,” he advised.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Karo, Brig. Gen. Pol. (Ret.) Dr. dr. Antonius Ginting, Sp.OG., M.Kes., in his remarks expressed high appreciation for USU’s commitment to maintaining the continuity of the Community Service Program in his region. He considered that this activity is not only beneficial for the people of Karo, but also strengthens collaboration between academia and local government.

“We strongly support the collaboration between Universitas Sumatera Utara and Karo Regency. Students are expected to implement integrity and commitment while interacting with the community,” he stated.

Through this cooperation, the Karo Regency Government hopes that students will become agents of change who bring an innovative spirit, assist communities in developing local potential, and support the improvement of regional welfare.
