USU PR — Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), through USU Care, once again distributed assistance to communities affected by flooding in Langkat Regency. The distribution was carried out on Tuesday (December 9, 2025) as part of USU’s commitment to remain present among communities during both the emergency response and post-disaster recovery phases.
The activity was led by USU Vice Rector III Prof. Poppy Anjelisa Z. Hasibuan, together with the Secretary of LPPM USU Meutia Nauly, USU Task Force member Prof. dr. Dewi Masyithah Darlan, and the team.
The first assistance was handed over at the Ara Condong Village Office, Stabat, and received directly by the local Village Head to be further distributed to affected residents. The team then moved to the second location in Gebang Village, Langkat, to distribute aid received by the local Neighborhood Head (Kepling). The distribution was conducted based on field needs mapping to ensure that the assistance provided was truly well-targeted and addressed residents’ most urgent needs.
USU Vice Rector III Prof. Poppy Anjelisa Z. Hasibuan expressed deep concern over the disaster experienced by the Langkat community. She emphasized that USU’s presence was not only to deliver aid, but also to provide moral support so that residents could remain resilient in facing difficult circumstances.
“We from USU deeply sympathize with the flood disaster that has affected our brothers and sisters in Langkat. We hope this assistance can help ease the burden on residents. We also hope the community remains strong, supports one another, and works together to get through this recovery period. USU Care will continue to strive to be present and provide assistance according to needs in the field,” she said.
Through this action, USU Care once again reaffirmed the role of the university as a partner to the community in emergency situations. Collaboration with village authorities and local elements is an important part of ensuring that assistance is distributed effectively. USU is committed to continuing its humanitarian efforts at various affected locations until community conditions fully recover and residents are able to resume normal activities.
