USU Holds Digital Talent Scholarship Fresh Graduate Academy

USU PUBLIC RELATION-MEDAN: the University of North Sumatra (USU) holds a Digital Talent Scholarship Fresh Graduate Academy in 2021 to improve the human resources of its graduates. This activity which was officially launched by USU Chancellor through the USU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Drs. Opim Salim Sitompul, M.Sc., on Wednesday (7/21/2021) took place online from July 21 to September 14, 2021.
Prof. Opim stated that this was not the first event held at USU. After previously was conducted with face-to-face, this time the event is carried out online due to the progression of the Covid-19 outbreak.
"This activity has been held for three consecutive years, beginning in 2019, and this year marks the third times. The 2020 and 2021 event should be held online owing to the the Covid 19 pandemic which has not been declining, hence, restrict any face-to-face events that have the ability to generate crowds," Prof Opim explained.
The Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Dr. Maya Silvi Lydia, M.Sc., in her remarks claimed that this activity is aiming to prepare qualified USU graduate job-ready.
“The goal of this activity is to prepare USU graduates to compete in today's industrial world, and to create an ecosystem balance for all parties involved in human resource development,” she explained.
The activity will involve 71 participants who will be guided by ten coaches. In the implementation, the Digital Talent Scholarship Fresh Graduate Academy collaborates with two vendors, namely Microsoft and Cisco.
In his speech, Prof. Opim explained the needs on human resources especially those with Information Technology backgrounds are currently very necessary. The total ASN requires for this year reach 1,275,387 formations, which consists of 83,669 employees for central government and 1,191,718 for the regions including both teacher and non-teacher PPPK, as well as Civil Servant Candidate (CPNS).
“The need for CPNS with competence in computer science, information technology and the like,almost reaches 10 percent of national needs, whereas 80 percent of agencies require human resources with the competence in computer science and information technology. The data clearly demonstrates to all of us how critical this opportunity is for us to take advantage of as well as possible,” he added.
Prof. Opim concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the participants’ contribution to studying well runs parallel with the contribution to improving the quality of human resources owned by the country and in the end will supports Indonesia to become a developed country in the future.
Representatives of the Ministry of Communication and Information, Eyla Alivia Maranny who is also the Head of the Digital Talent Scholarship Fresh Graduate Academy 2021 Work Program, the Deputy Deans of the USU IT Faculty of Communication and Information, the Digital Talent Scholarship Coaches for the 2021 USU Fresh Graduate Academy, and the Committees and Participants of the 2021 USU Digital Talent Scholarship Fresh Graduate Academy attended at the meeting.
