USU PR – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has been entrusted by Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) to distribute humanitarian assistance to flood victims in Sumatra, affecting Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. The aid, amounting to IDR 55,000,000, was transferred through USU’s Managed Fund account administered by the USU Peduli Emergency Post.
The Rector of USU, Prof. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., through Vice Rector III Prof. Poppy Anjelisa Z. Hasibuan, expressed appreciation for UNNES’s trust in delivering humanitarian assistance through USU.
“This mandate will be distributed to those entitled to receive it and, God willing, will reach the right targets,” Prof. Poppy stated in her remarks on Saturday (6/12/2025).
Prof. Poppy explained that the assistance from UNNES has also been distributed to several areas around Medan. “My team and I directly delivered the assistance, particularly in the Medan Marelan area,” she said.
The Vice Rector III of USU further explained that the USU Peduli Team has continuously been active in assisting flood victims in various regions. Assistance has also been provided to members of the USU academic community affected by the floods, including students, teaching staff, and lecturers.
Following directives from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek), USU has encouraged lecturers and students to prepare emergency response proposals in accordance with guidance from the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Stella Christie, who visited the USU Peduli Emergency Post several days ago.
As informed by Deputy Minister Stella, Kemendiktisaintek has allocated IDR 50 billion, with a maximum ceiling of IDR 500 million for each approved emergency response proposal. Members of the academic community from Sumatra Island, particularly those affected by floods, are eligible to submit such proposals for assistance.
The emergency response focus is expected to cover eight areas, namely logistics distribution, health and nutrition services, psychosocial assistance, rehabilitation, environmental sanitation and clean water needs, emergency education, economic recovery, public administration support, as well as disaster mitigation and education.
