MEDAN – USU PR: To support the smooth flow of information in aid operations and rehabilitation efforts in disaster-affected areas, the Satuan Tugas Bencana Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU Disaster Task Force) has opened new recruitment for volunteers, particularly those who will serve in information services and documentation. The recruitment process was accompanied by photography, videography, and journalism training held on January 15–16, 2026.
The Head of Implementation of Satgas Bencana USU Peduli, Zaid Perdana Nasution ST, MT, Ph.D., conveyed this information to the media following the activity, which took place at the meeting room of Lembaga Pengabdian Masyarakat Universitas Sumatera Utara, Jalan Alumni, USU Complex, Medan. The recruitment aims to equip volunteers with various skills, particularly in interview techniques, writing techniques, photography, and videography, enabling them to utilize these skills for social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, as well as the USU Peduli website. The training was guided by three speakers: Dr. Achmad Siddik Thoha, S.Hut., M.Si. for storytelling material, Renny Julia for journalism material, and Rizky Hakim Lubis for photography and videography.
“ It is hoped that after participating in this training, the volunteers will gain new knowledge and skills, enabling them to properly report and inform about conditions at disaster locations by utilizing the various available publication media,” Zaid added.
During the two-day training, 26 new volunteers—students from various faculties within USU—were enthusiastic and actively engaged in all training sessions. After completing the training, they were divided into several specialization groups and will be assigned to supply information in various formats across USU Peduli’s social media platforms. It is expected that with improved writing and social media content creation skills, the information delivered to the public will become clearer and easier to understand.
“ We hope that ultimately the information we disseminate will continue to increase public enthusiasm in assisting disaster victims, particularly in the rehabilitation process that is currently underway. May the disaster victims soon recover and rebuild their normal lives,” Zaid concluded optimistically.
