Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., Vice Rector for Academic, Student Affairs, and Alumni Affairs, stated in her remarks that the activity plays an important role in advancing scientific knowledge while also supporting environmental conservation efforts.

HUMAS USU – Universitas Sumatera Utara held an international collaboration workshop at the DLCB 5th Floor on Tuesday (12/05/2026). The event was attended by participants from both domestic and international institutions and was scheduled to run for three days.

The workshop served as a collaborative platform for academics, researchers, government representatives, and conservation organizations to formulate strategic measures related to environmental issues, particularly conservation efforts in Sumatra.

Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., Vice Rector for Academic, Student Affairs, and Alumni Affairs, stated in her remarks that the activity plays an important role in the development of scientific knowledge as well as environmental preservation efforts.

“This workshop is very important, not only for the advancement of scientific knowledge, but also for the future of biodiversity conservation in Sumatra.”

She also expressed hope that the collaboration established through the workshop would continue to grow and create meaningful impact in the future. “We hope this collaboration can continue to develop and produce sustainable strategic plans.”

Chairperson of the organizing committee, Onrizal, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D., explained that the workshop was designed not merely as a discussion forum, but as a platform focused on developing concrete action plans.

“This activity is not a seminar, but a workshop to plan collective action in conservation.”

Furthermore, Onrizal explained that the primary objective of the workshop was to collaboratively develop conservation plans involving multiple stakeholders.

“The main objective of this workshop is to formulate conservation plans together by involving academics, government institutions, NGOs, and communities.”

He also emphasized that the activity was expected to move beyond planning and be implemented through real actions in the field.

“We want this to become not just a discussion, but real action that can be implemented on the ground.”

Throughout the three-day event, participants would engage in discussions, exchange data, and formulate sustainable conservation strategies. Through this activity, it is hoped that strong collaboration among various stakeholders can be established to preserve the environment and support sustainable development in Indonesia.
