MEDAN: The teams from the Faculty of Nursing and the Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) continue to actively carry out disaster response activities in various affected locations across North Sumatra. These efforts include distributing basic food supplies and other logistical necessities, medicines, as well as providing nursing health services to the community, especially vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, infants, and children.
This was conveyed by the Dean of the USU Faculty of Nursing, Dr. Dudut Tanjung, S.Kp., M.Kep., Sp.KMB, on Thursday (12/4/2025), in his statement to the media through USU Public Relations. The USU Faculty of Nursing team, led directly by the Dean, has been deployed to Sibolga since November 30, 2025, and as of the publication of this news, remains stationed at SAT RADAR of the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) in Sorkam.
“Since November 30, 2025, our team has been directly deployed to the most severely affected areas in Central Tapanuli. For safety and service effectiveness, we decided to establish our post at SAT RADAR TNI AU Sorkam and continue coordinating with various parties. As of now, the team remains in Sorkam for an undetermined period to ensure that assistance can be provided on a sustainable basis,” Dr. Dudut further explained.

The focus of nursing services provided by the USU Faculty of Nursing team in the disaster areas includes the distribution of aid to vulnerable groups such as the elderly, pregnant women, infants, and children, as well as nursing health services for affected communities. The team distributed milk for infants and toddlers to help support immunity and meet basic nutritional needs amid conditions that have not yet fully stabilized.
“We want to ensure that not only does aid reach the community, but that residents’ health conditions are also continuously monitored and properly addressed,” emphasized the Dean of the USU Faculty of Nursing, who was seen directly engaging with disaster victims at the relief post.
