“Through student exchanges and joint research, collaboration with South Korea brings new momentum in achieving academic excellence,” Prof. Poppy stated.

Public Relations USU - Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) hosted the event “South Korea Embassy Goes to Campus,” titled “Strengthening Korea-Indonesia Relations Through Public Diplomacy and Youth Engagement.” The Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) USU Chapter initiated the event in collaboration with the Directorate of International Affairs and Global Partnerships (DIKG) and the USU Alumni Association. The event took place at the DLCB USU on Friday (June 20, 2025).

USU's Vice Rector III, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., stated that the collaboration with the South Korean Embassy is part of USU's strategy to expand its global partnership network. According to her, this collaboration opens opportunities for enhancing human resource quality through student exchange programs, collaborative research, and access to partner university networks in Korea.

“Through student exchanges and joint research, collaboration with South Korea brings new momentum in achieving academic excellence,” Prof. Poppy stated.

The presence of H.E. Park Soo Deok, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of South Korea, underscores the importance of this moment in strengthening academic networks and cultural exchange between the two friendly nations. In his remarks, he expressed hope that Indonesia’s young generation could serve as a diplomatic bridge to reinforce the strategic partnership between the two countries.

“Public diplomacy plays a vital role in building mutual understanding, and every participant today is an active actor in that process,” said H.E. Park Soo Deok.

In addition to the public lecture, the event featured presentations on Dokdo Island and the East Sea by embassy representatives and a presentation from the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) highlighting collaboration opportunities in the tourism and education sectors. Participants gained insights into cultural diplomacy, regional policy issues, and study and work opportunities in South Korea.

Naomi Audri Klarisa, Executive Director and Director of External Relations at FPCI USU, stated that this event marks a significant milestone for FPCI USU in its second year of operation. She commended the students' enthusiasm, which exceeded expectations, with over 300 registrations in just three days.

"Many participants hope to gain insights into study and work opportunities in Korea. We are pleased that their expectations were met through this educational and inspiring session,” said Naomi.

The event concluded with the presentation of souvenirs from FPCI USU to the South Korean Embassy, followed by a group photo with all participants. This collaboration is expected to continue with new initiatives that strengthen youth involvement in diplomacy and international exchange.
