“We are pleased to be able to support the placement of residents in our partner hospitals, as this initiative constitutes an integral part of the educational process. Our residents need exposure and direct experience of the real conditions within the community, including understanding how communities require access to healthcare services, particularly the role of specialist physicians in managing cases that demand more advanced and specialized treatment,” said dr Inke.
GUNUNGSITOLI – USU PUBLIC RELATIONS: The Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Sumatera Utara through Vice Dean III, dr Inke Nadia Diniyanti Lubis, PGDip PID FAAET, M.Ked(Ped), Sp.A, Ph.D, conducted the handover of one participant doctor from the Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist Education Program (PPDS Obgyn), namely dr. Trinidia Lubis, M.Ked(OG), to the Director of RSUD dr M Thomsen Gunungsitoli Nias, dr Noferlina Zebua, MKM, at the hospital’s hall on Tuesday (3/3/2026). Dr. Trinidia will serve for three months as a follow-up to the Cooperation Agreement between RSUD dr M Thomsen Gunungsitoli Nias and the Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Sumatera Utara.
The Director of RSUD dr M Thomsen Nias, dr Noferlina Zebua, MKM, emphasized that the assignment of residents from the Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Sumatera Utara’s PPDS program aims to help strengthen the quality of services, particularly in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. This activity will continue sustainably and will be gradually expanded to other fields/specialties to improve the competency of hospital services that meet evolving standards and regulations in accordance with community needs.
“We are pleased because FK USU has given attention to our request for the placement of an obgyn resident doctor at our hospital. Therefore, we warmly welcome this and will carry out all our obligations for the continuation of this cooperation in the future. All requirements and facilities for the resident doctor have been prepared as best as possible. Hopefully Dr. Tri will feel comfortable here. We do not want this cooperation to stop here. If possible, in the future it will not only involve obgyn, but we would also like the opportunity to collaborate with other specialties. Furthermore, we would like to convey that we are open to any suggestions and aspects that may need to be developed,” explained dr Noferlina.
Although RSUD Thomsen is already the leading hospital among those on Nias Island, she added, due to regulations and several changes in policies, as well as new systems from the Ministry of Health, many aspects must still be improved and adjusted. Currently, RSUD dr M Thomsen has two obstetrics and gynecology specialists.

In the following section, Vice Dean III of FK USU dr Inke Nadia Diniyanti Lubis stated in her remarks that this visit to RSUD dr M Thomsen was the second visit, following the first visit in August 2025 for the signing of cooperation in the field of obstetrics and gynecology.
In addition to RSUD dr M Thomsen, FK USU has also placed four other residents at RSUD Tafaeri Lotu. The Vice Dean III of FK USU assessed that the conditions faced by residents in the two hospitals are very different, so the preparation carried out by the PPDS program is also quite different.
“At RSUD Thomsen, our residents will gain more experience with a wider variety of cases. Considering that RSUD Thomsen currently serves as a referral hospital for the entire Nias region, they will encounter many diverse cases and collaborate with fellow obgyn colleagues. We hope this experience will be highly beneficial for the resident doctor assigned here, and we ask them to contribute to community service programs. Of course, the community service conducted will not be on a large scale, but by providing training, and if necessary visiting community health centers, assisting midwives in hospitals, particularly by sharing updated knowledge that can be provided. At least once a month for capacity building,” explained dr Inke further.
She stated that both institutions will benefit mutually from the placement of residents. FK USU aims to produce students who are ready to engage directly in the field with strong practical experience. Moreover, Nias—with all its limitations and diverse cases—will certainly provide even broader experience.
Also present from the Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Sumatera Utara were the Dean’s Expert Staff Dr rer medic., dr M Ichwan, M.Sc, Sp.KKLP, Subsp.FOMC, and the Secretary of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Study Program dr Iman Helmi Effendi, M.Ked(OG), Sp.OG(K).
