"Lulusan terbaik lahir dari program studi yang dikelola dengan baik. Karena itu, Ketua Program Studi dan Sekretaris Program Studi merupakan ujung tombak dalam memastikan mutu pendidikan berjalan secara berkelanjutan," ujar Rektor.
USU Public Relations – The Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., officially inaugurated the heads and secretaries of departments and study programs across the university for the 2026–2031 term. In his address, the Rector stressed that study program leaders serve as the frontline in producing graduates who are highly qualified and competitive on both the national and international stages.
According to the Rector, the success of a study program is determined not only by the quality of its teaching and learning processes but also by the ability of its academic leaders to perform effective managerial functions, foster collaboration, and cultivate an academic culture that is adaptive to change.
"The best graduates come from well-managed study programs. Therefore, Heads and Secretaries of Study Programs are at the forefront of ensuring that the quality of education is maintained and continuously improved," the Rector said on Tuesday (July 14, 2026).

The Rector emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination at the faculty level to ensure that all academic programs are aligned with the university's vision. He also encouraged department and study program leaders to continuously enhance their competencies and qualifications in line with advances in science and technology.
He further noted that higher education is currently experiencing rapid transformation, particularly with the growing adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI). According to him, these changes must be addressed by continuously updating curricula to ensure they remain relevant to future needs.
"Change is happening at an extraordinary pace. What we experienced as students is certainly different from what students face today. Therefore, the curriculum must continue to evolve so that it remains relevant to current developments and the needs of the workforce," he said.
Beyond curriculum renewal, the Rector also highlighted the importance of strengthening academic culture through collaboration among lecturers in education, research, and community service. He noted that such synergy would further enhance the quality of study programs.
Prof. Muryanto also encouraged every study program to foster an entrepreneurial mindset among students so that graduates are not only prepared to enter the workforce but are also capable of creating business opportunities and contributing to economic development.

During the event, the Rector underscored the importance of accountability in implementing every academic program. He urged all study program leaders to properly document their work plans and ensure that every planned initiative is carried out as intended.
"Document what you do, and do what you have documented. In this way, every process can be held accountable and serve as a basis for continuous evaluation and quality improvement," he emphasized.
The Rector expressed confidence that Universitas Sumatera Utara has the potential to stand alongside the world's leading universities, provided that the entire academic community continues to strengthen its culture of quality, innovation, collaboration, and adaptability in responding to global developments.
The inauguration of the Heads and Secretaries of Departments and Study Programs is expected to serve as an important milestone in strengthening academic leadership at USU, enabling the university to produce highly competent graduates, enhance its institutional competitiveness, and accelerate its progress toward becoming a world-class university.
