USU PR — Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), through the Medical Team of the Faculty of Medicine (FK USU), continues to strengthen its humanitarian response in disaster-affected areas. On Tuesday (9/12/2025), the FK USU Medical Team successfully established a health post at the evacuation site located in the courtyard of the Aceh Tamiang Regent’s Office, near the Population and Civil Registration Office (Dukcapil) building. The establishment of this post marked a rapid step to ensure that health services could immediately reach displaced residents, especially vulnerable groups.

The team, led by dr. Andriamuri Primaputra Lubis, M.Ked(An), Sp.An-Ti, Subsp.An.Ti(K), conducted intensive coordination with the Aceh Tamiang Health Office headed by Dr. Mustakim, M.Kes., Sp.DLP, as well as the Aceh Tamiang District Military Commander (Dandim) Lt. Col. ARM. Raden Subhi Fitra Jaya, S.Sos., MM, in determining the location of the health post. Once the post was established, health services were immediately opened, covering internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology (obgyn), surgery, and anesthesiology. On the first day, the post received evacuees seeking medical treatment, particularly pregnant women, the elderly, and children. The team also referred a male patient to RSUD Aceh Tamiang with a diagnosis of heart failure.

Services continued on Wednesday (10/12/2025) with strengthened personnel. The FK USU Medical Team that arrived consisted of 14 members, including 1 supervisor, PPDS from various departments (anesthesiology, pediatrics, surgery, obgyn, and internal medicine), two nurses from RS USU, and one technician. The team brought logistics in the form of medicines for medical services, as well as blankets, biscuits, and diapers to support basic needs at the evacuation site.

Upon arrival in Aceh Tamiang, the team immediately opened services as a number of patients were already waiting, particularly pregnant women, the elderly, infants, and children. Health services accompanied by the distribution of logistics took place throughout the day. On that day, a total of 64 patients received treatment, consisting of 28 internal medicine patients, 29 pediatric patients, 3 surgical patients, and 4 obgyn patients. The most common complaints identified were acute respiratory infections (ARI), especially among children, which commonly occur in post-flood disaster situations.

The USU Medical Team’s health post is planned to operate daily until early 2026, as part of a commitment to continuous assistance to ensure that affected residents receive stable, regular, and easily accessible health services during the recovery period.

The Head of the FK USU Medical Team, dr. Andriamuri Primaputra Lubis, M.Ked(An), Sp.An-Ti, Subsp.An.Ti(K), emphasized that the health post was established to safeguard the safety and health resilience of evacuees.

“For us, establishing this health post is a form of USU’s presence to ensure that survivors do not lose access to medical services during the most difficult times. Our priority is vulnerable groups (pregnant women, children, and the elderly) so that their health conditions remain monitored. This post will continue to operate daily as a form of sustained assistance until the community’s condition fully recovers,” he stated.

Through this initiative, USU reaffirms the role of the university as a partner to the community in disaster emergency response and recovery, through humane, collaborative, and well-targeted health services.
