USU PR – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) continues its humanitarian efforts for communities affected by the disaster in Sibolga and surrounding areas. Following the deployment of the USU Faculty of Nursing team to provide nursing health services, assistance for vulnerable groups, and the distribution of initial aid, USU has once again delivered further support as part of its sustained commitment to disaster response.
On Sunday (7/12/2025), USU distributed additional logistical assistance to Sibolga as a follow-up to the needs assessment conducted by teams on the ground. The aid delivered included 200 gas cylinders to support the daily needs of residents at evacuation shelters and affected households. In addition, powdered milk was provided for infants and toddlers to help maintain adequate nutrition and immune resilience amid ongoing recovery conditions. USU also supplied baby clothing and basic care items such as soap, shampoo, baby powder, and eucalyptus oil to support families still facing limited access to hygiene and health necessities.
Vice Rector II for Human Resources and Finance of USU, Dr. Muhammad Arifin Nasution, S.Sos., M.SP., stated that this assistance represents collective solidarity rooted in shared concern. The donations distributed were the result of contributions from the USU academic community as well as support from the wider public who participated in easing the burden on affected residents. “The assistance we delivered today reflects mutual cooperation and collective care. This is not only aid from the institution, but also from the USU academic community and the public who want to ensure that our brothers and sisters in Sibolga do not face the recovery process alone,” he said.
USU continues to coordinate with various parties to ensure that the distribution of aid is well targeted and truly reaches those in need. Efforts to meet other essential needs, including clean water support, are also being pursued through continued coordination in accordance with developments at the disaster site.
Through this aid distribution, USU once again affirms its role as a university that stands with the community during times of hardship. Solidarity and mutual cooperation remain key forces in helping Sibolga recover, and USU is committed to continuing its involvement in the recovery process.
