USU PUBLIC RELATION-MEDAN: The Rector of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., officially releases students who will take part in the Online Real Work Lecture - Community Empowerment Learning (KKN-PPM) University of North Sumatra on Thursday (7/1/2021). In his speech, he hoped that this program could have an impact on the community.
As a higher education institution, USU is committed to implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.Through KKN-PPM, the implementation can bedone in one activity.
“USU as a higher education institution has the spirit of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely learning, research, and community service.Through KKN-PPM, these three aspects can be implementedsimultaneously," the USU Rector said.
The most important thing according to him in the implementation of KKN-PPM is the impact felt by the community by the presence of the students.Students as educated human resources are expected to have animpact on society.
“The presence of students who are directly involved in the community shows our commitment together to participate in building the community.Students must be serious inparticipating in this activity," he said.
Meutia Nauly, S.Psi, M.Si., Psychologist, Secretary of the USU Community Service Institute (LPPM), in her report said USU sent students from seven faculties.The students arespread out in different areas.
"There were 1998 students who participated in this activity from seven faculties, namely the Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, and Faculty of Public Health," he said.
Meutia added that the students were distributed in 89 service areas located in two cities and five districts in North Sumatra Province.In addition, some students also took part in the NationalCommunity Service Programwhich was heldin Jambi Province.
The USU Rector said that KKN-PPM activities by engaging directly in the community would provide an unforgettable experience for students.Through these activities, students can develop their abilities insocializing with the community.
“This KKN-PPM provides an extraordinary experience for students.This can also be a place for developing managerial skills, socialization, problem analysis and so on as a provision after graduation tocompete in the world of work, "he added.
He also mentioned that by being in the community, students will find local wisdom that lives and is preserved by the community.According to him, local wisdom is the strength and potential that students can use to help the communitysolve their problems.
On that occasion, the Rector of USU thanked the regional heads of USU's partners who had received and provided facilities for USU to implementthe 2021 KKN-PPM program.
"Thank you to all regional heads who have become USU's partners in organizing this activity.I hope that our cooperation will not only end here, but that we will strengthen our friendship and collaboration to carry out community development activities in the future," he concluded.(RR/©ULC)
