748 Athletes Participate in the USU Games 2025 Open Archery Championship

“Each arrow released is not only aimed at the target but also directed toward one’s dreams and aspirations. Do not fear failure, for failure is the stepping stone to success,” said the Director of the Directorate of Student Achievement and Alumni Relations (Ditamawalumni) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU).
USU Public Relations – Universitas Sumatera Utara officially inaugurated the USU Games 2025 Open Archery Championship on Thursday (October 2, 2025), at the USU Mini Stadium. This major archery championship, the largest in North Sumatra, has drawn participation from more than 748 athletes representing various educational levels, from elementary, junior high, and senior high schools to universities.
The event serves not only as a competitive arena but also as a strategic platform for instilling values of concentration, discipline, and sportsmanship among participants. The strong support from local government agencies, sports organizations, and sponsors reflects a solid collaboration in fostering a sustainable archery ecosystem in North Sumatra.
Representing the Rector of USU, Rahma Yurliani, S.Psi., M.Psi., Director of Student Achievement and Alumni Relations, officially opened the championship and delivered her remarks. She emphasized that archery is not merely a test of physical ability but also a means to develop focus and mental endurance.
“Each arrow released is not only aimed at the target but also directed toward one’s dreams and aspirations. Do not fear failure, for failure is the stepping stone to success,” she stated.
Head of the North Sumatra Youth and Sports Agency, M. Mahfullah Pratama Daulay, S.STP., M.A.P., expressed his appreciation for the successful organization of this championship. According to him, the event represents an integral part of the long-term athlete development process at the national level, including preparations for the 2028 National Sports Week (PON).
“This championship will serve as an important milestone for Perpani North Sumatra and a foundation for nurturing high-achieving athletes,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, Secretary-General of Perpani North Sumatra, M. Said Tanjung, noted that this competition marks a new milestone in the history of archery outside Java Island. He commended USU students for their contribution to organizing such a large-scale event.
“We hope this championship will produce young athletes who are not only accomplished but also humble,” he said.
The USU Games 2025 Open Archery Championship will run until October 5, 2025, showcasing intense competition while upholding the true spirit of sportsmanship. Through this event, USU reaffirms its commitment to fostering a young generation that is healthy, strong in character, and accomplished in the field of sports.
