USU Holds ‘Nurses4Vienna’ Pre-Departure Program to Prepare Alumni for Global Opportunities

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held a pre-departure session for participants of the Nurses4Vienna Program, preparing nursing alumni for professional opportunities in Austria. The initiative reflects USU’s commitment to internationalization and developing globally competitive graduates equipped to contribute to the international healthcare sector.

MEDAN – HUMAS USU – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) organized a Pre-Departure session for participants of the ‘Nurses4Vienna’ Program as part of the preparation for alumni departing to Austria on Friday (June 5, 2026). The event took place in the Academic Senate Room, 3rd Floor of the USU Rectorate Building, and was attended by members of the academic community and program participants.

The event commenced with remarks from the Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T. He emphasized that the program represents one of USU’s internationalization initiatives, which include student exchanges, collaborative research, and partnerships with the Austrian Ministry of Health to help meet the demand for professional nursing personnel.

“This program is one of Universitas Sumatera Utara’s efforts to prepare graduates who are professional, competent, and ready to face global challenges,” said Prof. Himsar.

Similarly, the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Dr. Dudut Tanjung, S.Kp., M.Kep., Sp.KMB., expressed appreciation for the opportunity provided to the alumni. He highlighted the importance of cultural adaptation, maintaining professionalism, and upholding religious values while living and working abroad.

Meanwhile, USU International Affairs Manager, Lui Ribka Hutahaean, S.Kom., reported that out of the initial 30 participants, 11 successfully passed the selection process. However, two participants withdrew and one failed to meet the requirements, resulting in a total of eight participants who will ultimately be deployed through the program.

Through this activity, USU reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the internationalization of higher education and preparing graduates who are capable of competing on the global stage while making meaningful contributions to the nursing profession.
