Medan, USU PR – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) announced the winners of the 2026 USU Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Ambassador Selection during an event held at the USU Senate Hall, 3rd Floor, on Wednesday (July 29, 2026).

USU Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Partnerships, Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T., emphasized that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) represent a call to create meaningful change in society, ranging from poverty alleviation and improvements in education and healthcare to equality, innovation, environmental stewardship, and stronger partnerships.

"The SDGs are a call to bring about tangible change in society, from eradicating poverty and improving education and healthcare to promoting equality, innovation, environmental responsibility, and stronger partnerships," he said.

He also stressed that the successful implementation of the SDGs depends not only on university policies but also on the active participation of the entire academic community, particularly students as the nation's future leaders. Therefore, SDGs Ambassadors are expected to serve as agents of change, communicators, role models, and connectors who can bring the values of sustainable development closer to both students and the wider community.

"The success of the SDGs does not rely solely on university policies; it also requires the active involvement of the entire academic community, especially students," he added.

Prof. Dr. dr. Dewi Masyithah Darlan, DAP&E, M.PH., Sp.Par.K., Director of the Directorate of Partnerships and Internationalization, explained that the purpose of the program is to prepare ambassadors who can act as communicators and advocates, helping to translate the principles of sustainable development into everyday life.

"The purpose of organizing this event is to enable each ambassador to become a communicator and catalyst, ensuring that sustainable development through the SDGs can be applied in everyday life," she said.

Echoing this message, Wahyu Hardiansyah, S.T., Manager of International Reputation, stated that SDGs Ambassadors are the driving force behind positive change. He expressed hope that each ambassador would inspire younger students to embrace and promote the spirit of the SDGs.

As the First Place Winner of the 2026 USU SDGs Ambassador Selection, Hana Fakhirah Rani observed that USU students have demonstrated a strong awareness of sustainability issues. This was evident from the enthusiastic participation of students throughout the ambassador selection process. As a representative of the younger generation, she hopes more students will be inspired to develop innovations that create meaningful and lasting benefits for society.

"I hope that students, as the younger generation, will be inspired to create innovations that have a real and positive impact on society," she said.
