USU PUBLIC RELATIONS – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), in collaboration with PT TASPEN (Persero), the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and several strategic partners, held the “TASPEN Goes to Campus: Financial Well-Being” event at the USU Auditorium on Wednesday (16/9/2026).

The event was part of an effort to improve financial literacy among young people, particularly university students, regarding the importance of healthy financial management and early retirement planning.

Carrying the theme “Start Building Healthier Finances,” the event featured several speakers from the financial and business sectors, including PT TASPEN (Persero) Director of Operations Tribuna Phitera Djaja and Yusri, Director of Supervision of Financial Services Business Conduct, Education, Consumer Protection, and LMSt at OJK North Sumatra.

In his remarks, USU Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T., said the event was a follow-up to the cooperation between USU and PT TASPEN in providing students with an understanding of financial management.

He stated that financial literacy should be introduced early so that students are equipped to make wiser financial decisions in the future.

“The earlier we provide students with financial knowledge or literacy, the better the results we hope to achieve. In addition to gaining knowledge, students can also gain experience and receive materials directly from industry representatives as learning resources,” said Prof. Himsar.

Meanwhile, PT TASPEN (Persero) Director of Operations Tribuna Phitera Djaja stated that improving public literacy regarding pension funds remains a challenge that needs to be addressed through education and collaboration among various stakeholders.

He explained that TASPEN Goes to Campus is part of an effort to broaden young people’s understanding of the importance of preparing for financial well-being from an early age.

“Preparing for retirement is not something that should be postponed. Start when you receive your first income: make payments gradually, set some money aside, and do it consistently. A prosperous retirement must be prepared for starting today,” said Tribuna.

Yusri, Director of Supervision of Financial Services Business Conduct, Education, Consumer Protection, and LMSt at OJK North Sumatra, added that the event was part of the Pension Fund Month series, which aims to improve public understanding of the importance of pension fund management.

According to him, collaboration among OJK, PT TASPEN, the government, and various educational institutions is an important step in expanding public access to financial education.

“Through activities like this, we hope that more people will understand that retirement planning is not something to be done later, but something that needs to start now,” said Yusri.

The TASPEN Goes to Campus: Financial Well-Being event is expected to provide USU students with new insights into the importance of healthy financial management while raising awareness among young people about preparing for their financial future during their productive years.
