"This meeting serves as an initial discussion forum to review the various preparations required for the planned establishment of a Medical Education Study Program, including human resources, infrastructure, and compliance with established standards," she stated.

HUMAS USU – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) received a delegation from Universitas Muslim Nusantara (UMN) Al-Washliyah Medan regarding plans to establish a Medical Education Study Program on Wednesday (20/05/2026). The meeting took place in the TTU Room, 3rd Floor, USU.

The meeting was attended by USU Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Alumni Relations, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt.; UMN Al-Washliyah Rector, Prof. Dr. H. Firmansyah, M.Si.; Dean of the USU Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. Muara Panusunan Lubis, M.Ked(OG), Sp.OG, Subsp.K.Fm.; along with representatives from both institutions.

During the meeting, Prof. Poppy welcomed the visit from UMN Al-Washliyah Medan and noted that it served as an initial forum to discuss the various aspects that need to be prepared for the establishment of a Medical Education Study Program.

"This meeting serves as an initial discussion forum to review the various preparations required for the planned establishment of a Medical Education Study Program, including human resources, infrastructure, and compliance with established standards," she stated.

Meanwhile, the Rector of UMN Al-Washliyah Medan explained that the visit served both as a goodwill meeting and as an initial step in discussing the university's plan to establish a Medical Education Study Program. He noted that the initiative aligns with the government's efforts to increase the availability of medical professionals in Indonesia.

Furthermore, he emphasized that establishing a Medical Education Study Program is a complex process that requires thorough preparation in accordance with ministry standards. Therefore, UMN Al-Washliyah hopes to receive guidance, mentorship, and opportunities for collaboration with USU to fulfill the necessary requirements.

"The establishment of a Medical Education Study Program certainly requires careful preparation. Therefore, we hope to receive guidance and assistance from USU so that the process can proceed in accordance with applicable regulations," he said.

This meeting is expected to serve as an initial step in strengthening collaboration between USU and UMN Al-Washliyah Medan, particularly in supporting the development of higher education and improving the quality of human resources in the healthcare sector.
