Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) collaborated with Alliance Française Medan to hold an international public lecture on two themes, namely “Nuclear Energy: From Extremely Small Fission Scale to Extremely Large Worldwide Impact” and "Composite Materials: Diversity of Use, Focus on Mechanical Design” in the Academic Senate Meeting Room, 3rd Floor, USU Rectorate Building, on Wednesday (June 25, 2025)

 

Representing the Vice Rector III of USU, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si.., M.Si, APT., USU Internationalization Program Manager Prof. Rikson Asman Fertiles Siburian, S.Si.., M.Si.., Ph.D., stated that today's public lecture significantly demonstrates USU's commitment to expanding perspectives, sharpening critical thinking skills, and serving as a bridge between knowledge and broader innovation.

“Activities like today’s public lecture are vital to our commitment to broadening perspectives,” she said.

 

As a World-Class University, this public lecture is one of USU’s efforts to enhance its academic reputation. Prof. Rikson Asman Fertiles Siburian, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., expressed his gratitude to the President of Alliance Française Medan, Poggy Kurniawan, who initiated today’s public lecture and invited Rémi De Reynal, an R&D Mechanical Engineer at Michelin in France, as the speaker. 

“USU had the opportunity to receive a lecture from a research and development expert at Michelin, initiated by Ms. Poggy,” he said.

 

Prof. Rikson Asman Fertiles Siburian, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., assured that this collaboration will continue. Alliance Française Medan has opened opportunities for USU undergraduate students to intern for one semester in France. Prof. Rikson Asman Fertiles Siburian S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., stated that various universities in France fund the internship program, provided the students actively participate in their research groups. 

“Universities in France cover the internship costs, provided that the students become part of their research groups,” he said.
