USU PR - The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of North Sumatra University (USU) held a Scientific Oration, as one of a series of events to celebrate its 58th Anniversary. With the theme "MIPA Collaboration and Innovation Supporting World Class University", the activity took place in the Multipurpose Room Lt.1 Unit 8 FMIPA USU, on Friday (November 10, 2023).

The scientific oration entitled "Contribution of the Geological Agency to Support Net Zero Emission" was delivered by the Head of the Geological Survey Center of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia, Drs Hermansyah, M.Si. Then, followed by a symbolic handover of 58 trees symbolizing the age of FMIPA USU, by the Head of the North Sumatra Watershed Management Center, Sigit Budi Nugroho, S.Si, M.Si.

In his remarks, USU Vice Rector II for Human Resources and Finance, Muhammad Arifin Nasution, S.Sos., M.SP., expressed his joy for FMIPA USU which has reached the age of 58. He hopes that FMIPA can continue to increase its role and contribution to producing superior graduates who are competent and professional.

"Ladies and gentlemen whom I respect, first of all, allow me on behalf of the leadership of Universitas Sumatera Utara to congratulate FMIPA USU which is 58 years old," said Arifin.

Furthermore, Muhammad Arifin Nasution, S.Sos., M.SP stated that the theme of this event has significant relevance to USU's internationalization achievement goals. Collaboration and innovation are considered as two key elements to strengthen the position of the USU FMIPA faculty at the global level.

"We as university leaders always encourage and strive for FMIPA in the future to be more advanced," said Arifin.

Finally, Muhammad Arifin Nasution, S.Sos., M.SP hopes that FMIPA can design programs that not only improve academic and humanist aspects but also increase the publication of research products.

"We also hope that in the future FMIPA USU can become a leading center of collaboration and innovation, not only at the national level but also in the international arena," hoped Arifin.

On the same occasion, the Dean of FMIPA USU Dr. Nursahara Pasaribu M.Sc. briefly reviewed the history of FMIPA and stated that FMIPA's achievements at the USU level have increased. It can be seen in FMIPA students, who have produced works at the national and international levels. This is one form of FMIPA USU's contribution to the achievement of World Class University.

"So if you reflect on the achievements, at the USU level I think FMIPA is quite proud. At the national and international levels there are works by our students," explained Dr. Nursahara.

Dr. Kaniwa Berliani S.Si., M.Si as the Chairperson of the Committee explained the series of activities they carried out, including a health seminar that discussed healthy lifestyles. Then a scientific oration and the giving of plant seeds as a symbolic 58th anniversary. On the next day, there will be a fun walk, bazaar, blood donation, health check, and lucky draw.

"We have two days of activities for this year's 58th anniversary. Today we held a scientific oration and planted seedlings and there are still activities tomorrow," explained Dr. Kaniwa.
