Building a bridge between the academic world and the renewable energy industry, the Society of Renewable Energy (SRE) USU Student Activity Unit conducted a special visit to the Sigura-gura hydroelectric power plant owned by PT Inalum. This activity took place on Friday, May 11, 2023, in Asahan, North Sumatra, and aims to deepen understanding regarding the application of hydroelectric power plants and strengthen the commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Presenting the finalists and committee of NRE Fest 2023 as well as active members of SRE USU, the event successfully engaged around 40 enthusiastic participants in exploring potential synergies in preventing global temperature rise.

SRE USU's Study Tour to Bogor, West Java

In the context of the National Energy, Climate, Sustainability Competition (NECSC) 2023, SRE USU organized an inspirational study tour to the Rumpin Nursery in Bogor, West Java, on February 20, 2023. This visit was specifically designed to enrich insights into plant propagation and nursery technology, which play a crucial role in efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the vital contribution of trees. The event was attended by finalists of NECSC 2022, representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and two selected members of SRE USU, creating a collaborative platform for discussions and learning.

On May 27, 2023, Intan Permata Sari Purba, the Founding President of SRE USU, participated in the Youth for Energy Forum held at the JS Luwansa Hotel and Convention Hall, Jakarta. This prestigious event served as a platform to discuss the socioeconomic impacts of the green transition, highlighting the challenges Indonesia faces in retraining its workforce and how the European Union can share best practices in this regard. Additionally, the forum introduced the Green Team Europe Initiatives (TEI) and JETP initiatives, with a focus on the role of energy transition in creating new job opportunities in Indonesia. The event also provided an opportunity to promote European expertise in developing clean energy solutions and highlighted the future needs of companies for a skilled workforce in this field.
