Several months under the leadership of Muryanto Amin, several achievements have been achieved by USU. Recently, for example, USU managed to enter the top 10 universities with the most medals in the 2021 National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Competition (KNMIPA) held by the National Achievement Center of the Ministry of Education and Culture. It is believed that Usman can continue to achieve this achievement with other achievements for the next five years, especially in bringing USU to the international stage. To reach this level, USU has a lot to fix. From the alumni point of view, he saw that USU had to improve three things.

First, the curriculum. According to this doctoral candidate in Communication Science, University of Indonesia, campus is a place to educate people. So the curriculum needs to be modified and reformed. According to the context, Kemendikbudristek is currently promoting the Freedom of Learning. Everything should be adjusted to the curriculum.

“ In my opinion, all religions should be studied on campus. Muslims should study Hinduism, Christianity and other religions. So Islam does not only study Islam," he said.

Others, for example, bring experts to campus or do internships at companies for a long time. In this case, USU alumni can be involved. "I myself can also be invited to a public lecture on journalism for example," said the Director of Political Communication for the Jokowi-KH Ma'ruf Amin National Campaign Team.

In the apprenticeship process at the company, the role of alumni is also quite large. This is to make it easier for USU students to explore deeper knowledge apart from campus

Next, said Usman, what needs to be improved is the quality of the lecturers. USU's lecturers must continue to learn and improve. Never be satisfied with just standard knowledge, for example, the lecturer in Communication Studies. Currently, Multimedia Journalism is busy. The ability of the lecturer must be able to reach this.

“And the third is the education system. To reach the internationalization of this campus, all three must be improved," said the Chief Editor of the Media Group.

Basically said Usman, alumni are also ready to support USU in various ways towards the international stage. It just needs mapping and targets in what areas the achievement is.

"If the international achievements are only in activities. I think it's easy to realize it. It's just a matter of recording our alumni who work abroad. I think they can help," he said.

Or another example in terms of international cooperation. USU collaborates with universities from other countries. Alumni can also help if the mapping and data collection of alumni has been carried out.

“As for the achievements, for example sports or other fields, concrete targets need to be made so that USU can excel in mastering ASEAN and even internationally later. For universities, the target is definitely ranking. Before going to the international stage, USU must first master the national level," Usman said.

This pandemic also, said Usman, did not become a barrier for USU to pursue these achievements. He is sure that in the past five years Muryanto Amin will be able to do that according to his tagline, namely Transformation Towards the Ultimate. (BR/©ULC)
