The Undergraduate Program in Logistics Engineering at Universitas Sumatera Utara was established in 2025 and began operations in the 2026/2027 Academic Year. The program is designed to address the challenges of logistics and supply chain management in the global and digital era, with a focus on efficiency, sustainability, and the utilization of technology. Logistics Engineering at USU implements an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) approach that integrates theoretical and practical learning through laboratories, simulations, and collaboration with industry and stakeholders. Grounded in the BINTANG values, the program is committed to producing graduates who are professional, adaptive, and ready to contribute to the development of national and global logistics.
Logistics Engineering at USU focuses on the development of logistics knowledge and practices that are efficient, reliable, and sustainable, particularly for soft commodities and their downstream products, such as agricultural, plantation, and livestock products, which constitute the main strengths of North Sumatra. The program is designed to produce graduates who are capable of planning, managing, and designing modern logistics systems encompassing warehousing, transportation, distribution, freight forwarding, as well as the integration of digital technologies such as e-logistics, the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, and artificial intelligence. With a vision to become a globally recognized study program, Logistics Engineering at USU contributes to sustainable development through an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) approach oriented toward the needs of industry and society. The educational process is grounded in the BINTANG values (Faithful, Innovative, Integrity-driven, Resilient, and Wise) as the core graduate attributes of USU, alongside the strengthening of professional competence, ethics, and leadership. The distinctiveness of Logistics Engineering at USU lies in the utilization of North Sumatra as a living logistics laboratory, with real-world contexts such as the Lake Toba Region, Belawan Port, the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone, and strategic commodity logistics corridors. The program is further strengthened by collaborative networks with professional associations (such as the Indonesian Logistics Association and ASPERINDO), industry partners, local governments, and national and international academic institutions, ensuring curriculum relevance and the global competitiveness of its graduates.
