The Doctoral Program in Economic Sciences at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is the highest level of academic study in economics, covering various aspects of the discipline, including Economic Theory, Macroeconomics and Microeconomics, Econometrics, Public Policy, Management, Accounting, and Economic Development. Established in 2009, this program aims to produce graduates who are capable of developing knowledge, technology, and the arts in innovative, creative, and implementative ways, and who possess the ability to conduct original research that is beneficial to society and recognized at both national and international levels.

The vision of this study program is to become a leading doctoral program and a role model in the research and development of science and technology, as well as producing graduates who excel in economics in line with leading universities in ASEAN in 2030. The students who take part in the USU Doctoral Program in Economic Science are expected to become agents of change who can overcome complex economic science challenges. Those who complete this study program will earn a Doctoral degree (Dr.).
